Oh Baby! Sushi Bar & Grill
Oh baby is right, so happy to have found another Japanese restaurant that makes yummy vegan specialty sushi rolls. Plus it’s close by me in a little shopping center in Redwood City. A teeny tiny space but mighty in flavor.
There’s a number of veggie options clearly marked on the menu along with which items that can be made vegan. When I started to order a veggie roll, the waitress asked if I was vegetarian. So nice to be asked instead of me always asking what’s vegan.
Ordered two sushi rolls, Spicy Veggie Roll made vegan, pictured above on the right. Slightly fried jalapeno, cucumber, avocado with spicy sauce and chili pepper. It was indeed spicy, maybe just a tad too spicy but still really good.
Veggie Dragon Roll, on the left, asparagus tempura topped with avocado and eggplant. Both rolls were so savory and rich, I was stuffed. Love the wide selection of innovative vegan rolls, so nice to actually get to choose for once. Usually I’m lucky if a Japanese restaurant has one or two veggie rolls. Downside of a large selection is deciding which one(s) to order, I want to try everything.
Less than a week later, I’m already back for a Veggie Tiger Roll – tempura pumpkin and asparagus topped with avocado, special sauce and crispy walnut. I learned my lesson from the previous time and only ordered one roll. If you’re sharing or starving you may want to order more than just the one roll.
There’s something for everyone at Oh Baby Sushi with plenty of vegan options to choose from classic vegan sushi rolls (which I haven’t tried yet) to their own vegan sushi rolls creations (which I’ve tried and love). Extra bonus points for Oh Baby Sushi, I see new vegan rolls on the menu and a new vegan kimchi ramen too. All the more reason for another visit soon.

Creative vegan sushi should be much easier to find considering the simplicity of it all, but it’s still a rare treat to find anything beyond the standard cucumber rolls. These are some truly inspired combinations. If it was nearby, I would be a regular here, too.

I know! I’m just thankfully I’m able to find them at all.

In a moment of cross-Atlantic synchronicity, I was googling ‘vegan sushi london’ today, trying to find somewhere good to take my sushi-craving self. It looks like you found much more success than I did – those tiger rolls look quite delicious. I could do with a bit of Oh Baby over here!

Hopefully sushi chefs in your neck of the woods get on the ball and come up with new and interesting veggie sushi rolls. :-)

That looks incredible — I’m jealous. The last time I had creative vegan sushi was in San Francisco, and that’s a little far to go. I suppose I could challenge myself to make it at home. Wait…you should try to replicate the sushi and share recipes! Yeah.

I would totally try to make it myself except I don’t do fried at home. That’s what eating out is for. :-)

I get it. I’m the same.
