Scarfed down The Counter vegan burger after a much needed retail therapy session (I actually did need to shop for new clothes, the therapy part was just a bonus).
A make your own custom burger chain restaurant, you decide on the protein, sauce, toppings and style – bun or salad bowl. I got the house-made vegan veggie patty with Just Mayo, mixed greens, pickles, grilled onions, and tomatoes. No cheese. On a ciabatta bun, the only bun marked vegan on the menu.
Pretty decent veggie patty, it held together fairly well and wasn’t overly mushy or anything. I got the smallest size at 1/3 lb. There’s also a bigger size at 1/2 lb and the biggest at 1 lb for a whopping 1000 calories.
Never seen veggie patties in different sizes before. I’m curious if anyone has ever ordered the larger ones. While the third pounder at 330 calories was plenty for me, it would be fun to see a humongous The Counter vegan burger. Maybe to share or if I’m not planning to eat for the rest of the day.
My burger tweaks for next time: I’ll get both mixed greens and lettuce for a bit more of the green stuff. Since the grilled red onions were only lightly so, it was a little too raw for my taste. So no onions for me on future burgers. The table also got an order of shoestring french fries to share. Much more cost effective than everyone adding a $3 side of fries to their individual meal.
There’s quite a few locations near me, The Counter in San Mateo and San Jose are both near major shopping centers. Perfect if you get the munchies while out shopping as there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

I like build your own places. I just recently built my own bowl at a local restaurant and it was so good — exactly what I wanted. We don’t have The Counter, here — at least as far as I know!

I like build your own places too, they’re very popular nowadays. So far, I’ve gotten byo burgers, pizza and bowls and they were all pretty good.

I haven’t eaten at The Counter in ages, but their veggie burgers are definitely some of the better ones around, especially for a chain. The fries are what really get me though- perfectly thin and crispy everything, just the way I like them.

I really like the idea of a build your own burger place – I’d be ordering the more fixings the better, and the most bread possible. I’d probably be going for the humungous patty too… On second thoughts, maybe it’s a good thing we don’t have a build your own burger place round here…

Next time I’m going to mark more of the toppings. They put a reasonable amount on but I could have used a bit more of the greens…

Im at The Counter now in San Mateo I live in Burlingame the staff was very helpful and knew what was vegan right off the go so definitely a plus waiting for my veg burger hope its awesome will let yall know
