Purely Decadent Coconut Milk Ice Cream Review

Purely Decadent Coconut Milk Ice Cream Review

On top of a homemade blueberry brownie is my new all-time favorite ice cream – Purely Decadent coconut flavor, coconut milk based, non-dairy, soy-free frozen dessert. It’s one of the flavors that So Delicious (the company that produces said ice cream) had sent me to try out.

It’s got the same creamy, rich and decadent texture as I have come to expect from So Delicious. The color is an amazing bright white making for a beautiful contrast to the brownie.

Purely Decadent Coconut Milk Ice Cream Review

As for taste, it’s nothing but coconut all the way through, it even has little flakes of coconut. Some of the other flavors have a hint of coconut to them, seeing as they’re made from coconut milk. So the coconut one seems really pure and simple – it’s the epitome of coconut milk ice cream.

Update
I’ve dug up the recipe for the brownies since you all were asking for it. I don’t remember where it came from so I can’t properly credit the recipe. If anyone recognizes it, please let me know.

As I always seem to do, I changed the recipe a bit. I used all white flour since I didn’t have whole wheat flour and I didn’t have cocoa powder and used double chocolate hot chocolate powder instead. It made for a more cake-like brownie (see above photo). I don’t know if it’s because I made the substitutions or not, but that’s how mine came out.

Blueberry Brownies
Makes 16 brownies

1 cup applesauce
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1/4 cup unbleached white flour
1/3 cup cocoa powder
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup chopped walnuts
1/2 cup fresh or frozen blueberries

Preheat oven to 350 degrees, spray 8″ square baking pan with nonstick cooking spray. In a medium mixing bowl, combine applesauce, sugar and vanilla. In another bowl, whisk together whole wheat flour, white flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Make a well in the center and add wet ingredients; mix until just combined. Gently fold in walnuts and blueberries. Spread mixture into prepared pan and bake for 25 – 30 minutes until center is firm and not sticky. Let cool completely before slicing.

I love this stuff! I’m a big fan of coconut sorbet, so trying the So Delicious coconut flavor coconut ice cream was a no-brainer when it appeared on the market.

Try the mocha almond fudge. Ahhhhh…. My all time favorite. I also like the peanut butter chocolate, and the mint chip and the coconut. Chocolate is decent. Haven’t tried the vanilla or that mango flavor.

    Awesome photos. Mine suck.

qtpie – Fresh lychees would be wonderful with coconut ice cream! Great idea! Thanks!

Lynne – I’ll see if I can find the recipe again.

crystal – Maybe Purely Decadent will come to a store near you soon. :-)

VeganKorean – I’m just the opposite – I’ve tried the vanilla and mango but not any of the other flavors. :-) Ice cream is hard to shoot, I thought it would melt a lot faster than it did when I was taking the pictures.

owww my stomach is still hurting from the quarter pint of so delicious coconut milk cookie dough ice cream I ate… it was so good, I just couldn’t stop myself from eating the whole thing. I’m so glad there is another alternative out there for those of us who try to avoid consuming too much soy. I have to say that this is the best non-dairy ice cream Ive ever had!!

Yum! I love So Delicious products as well, but I have to say that for Coconut Ice Cream, Luna and Larry do it better. http://www.coconutbliss.com/ They have a wide variety of flavors, all dairy-free and soy-free, it’s amazing.

Just tried the Purely Decadent Cookie Dough (soymilk version) and it was sooooooo good!!! Ate the whole pint in one sitting! Lots of chocolate flakes and cookie dough pieces. And the vanilla ice cream was creamy as well. I definitely recommend it!
