Animal Style Taters

August 9, 2012 By chow 18 Comments

Animal Style Taters

On a regular basis, I drive by an In-N-Out Burger. Each time, I think of their legendary secret menu (although nowadays, it’s not so secret, just Google it and all is revealed). But for those not in the know, it’s a way of customizing their limited menu of hamburgers, cheeseburgers, fries and drinks using their special lingo for various options.

One such option is “Animal Style Fries” – extra spread, grilled onions and cheese atop of french fries. For fun, I made a vegan version using tater tots instead of fries, melted Daiya cheddar cheese, whisked up a little sauce of Thousand Island dressing with vegan mayo, ketchup and sweet relish and topped it all off with caramelized onions.

So good! Never actually had the real deal, I’ve only gotten plain fries at In-N-Out, but I can see why Animal Style is so popular. Next time I’m having a veggie burger, I’m going to forget the sprouts. I’m having it Animal Style.

Um, yes please?! Those taters look incredible! I’ve never been to an In-N-Out, but I’d take that rockin’ plate of animal style tots any day!

OMG, homemade animal style!! I do live in the land of the In N Out, but we don’t go very often–it’s still fast food when all is said & done. But it’s so good! Making the sauce at home is obviously the best idea ever. :)

Thinking about tots makes me feel kinda sick, ever since one particular incident when I was in grade school, but I do love the piles of toppings! I would totally recreate this with fries- preferably curly- for a midnight snack.

I had to look up In-N-Out to see what they had, and I guess you won’t be getting your animal-style burger there. Ha! Good thing you can make your own, much superior, snacks!

This looks really great and tasty. Any version of the chip (I’m British) has got to be good. Why are they called ‘animal style fries’ though?

The taters look heavenly, and I can’t wait to prepare this for my guests tonight. What wine do you think would be most suitable for this?

Those taters look incredible! I have only been to In and Out Burger one time when I visited California. I had the plain fries too along with lettuce and tomato on a bun. There are not very many options there for vegans, but their fries are great! I can’t wait to try these tots.
