Gardein Savory Stuffed Turk’y

Gardein Savory Stuffed Turk’y

It seems like every year there’s something new out for Thanksgiving, this year I dined on Gardein Savory Stuffed Turk’y. I got it on sale at Whole Foods for $5.99, 2 cutlets in a package. If you like their other stuffed cutlet type of products, you’ll probably like this latest one.

After cooking in the oven for 30 minutes, the bread crumb crust is crisp and flavorful. The cutlet itself has a subtle turkey-like kinda taste and was stuffed with bread crumbs, onions, celery and cranberries. It comes with quite a bit of gravy too, enough for the two cutlets plus extra for whatever else happens to be on the plate.

Gardein Savory Stuffed Turk’y

It’s similar to what Whole Foods had offered in their prepared vegan Thanksgiving dinner a few years ago. Back then, I liked the cutlet but the sides that came with were only so-so. I had wished I could have gotten just the cutlets by themselves, now it appears I can.

I wasn’t a huge fan of the Gardein stuffed chicken that I tried, but I think I’d like the turkey better. It certainly looks good!

I haven’t tried any of the Gardein products, yet. They scare me a little for some reason, but one of these days curiosity will win, and I’ll bring a package home. Which one do you most recommend?

It looks really good. I’ve tried a couple of the gardein products and didn’t care for them much but I think I’d like to try this out. Although I do like it better than Tofurky.

that’s really awesome that not only did you get the stuffed turk’y on sale, but that it was super tasty, too! while i can’t have it due to the ‘ol gluten factor, i might just have to pick up some for dan – sounds like he’d enjoy them as well!

Erin – I liked the turkey one better because it has a nice crust on it, the chicken one doesn’t.

Andrea – Lately, I’ve been enjoying the Crispy Tenders – cut into pieces on top of a salad.

JoLynn-dreaminitvegan – I definitely like some products more than others. I didn’t care for any of the “beef” ones that I’ve tried so far.

    Noelle – It was yummy!

jessy – I think dan would like it. :-)

I was just at Whole Foods the other day and saw these on sale, but resisted- And now I regret that! Sounds like a promising choice for future holiday meals, though.

I want to try this! I love, love Gardein products! There is even a Morningstar farms Sesame ‘Chicken’ product out there now that is made from Gardein chicken and it faked me out. I had to double check there wasn’t real meat in it. I am glad to see Morningstar using this vs. their own fake chicken that sometimes contains milk and egg whites. I like the sesame chicken dish even though it’s not cheap and has some icky red peppers in it that I had to pick out. http://www.morningstarfarms.com/product_detail.aspx?family=3696&id=22452

Agreed about the Crispy Tenders sliced and added to salads!

I really liked the stuffed Turk’y, but I don’t think I followed the directions correctly – cooked in my countertop oven it was way overcooked, and got a bit hard. But… the flavor overall was still really good, and gravy was excellent, I thought. Not having eaten turkey for close to five years, this was a good substitute (who can remember?). I’d definitely eat it again.

For the first time ever, the actual product looks a lot more delicious than the photo shown on the package. Gardein should win an award for having frozen food ACTUALLY look like it does on the package. I’ve never seen that haha.

As a brand spankin’ new vegan, the Gardein products are as close to meat as you can get. My kids couldn’t tell the difference. Can’t wait to try this one!
