Walking by the pizza station at the San Mateo Whole Foods, I saw to my astonishment that they had a little sign that read Vegan BBQ Chicken Pizza. I don’t know how many times I’ve walked by before and there was never anything remotely vegan.
I asked to be sure, that the whole pizza was vegan, not just the bbq chicken part. They answered in the affirmative; it has a thin whole wheat crust and Gardein chicken.
I thought the “chicken” pieces seemed a little dry and didn’t really add all that much to the pizza. The flavor came mostly from the bbq sauce. But I liked the onions and how it wasn’t really greasy at all.
I can’t say for sure I’ll get the bbq chicken pizza again (if it’s regularly available), as I prefer my pizza to have a combination of different vegetables. I’m hoping that the next time I walk by, they’ll have a different flavor or better yet a selection of vegan pizzas slices.
I would kill for that right now. Seriously.
I’m with you on the bbq “chicken” pizza. My son and I tried it before and wasn’t our favorite. Whole Foods usually has a vegan pizza available just ask next time, I’ve had a vegan cheese and a veggie one before.
No way, you’re from SM, California? Me too!! Cool :). I’ll keep my eyes open for their vegan pizzas, never tried it before
I’ve only seen the spinach and fajita version at Whole Foods. I thought the spinach had a bitter taste.
Even if it wasn’t 100% amazing, I think I’d love a slice just for the fancy of having readily available vegan pizza!
It looks spectacular!
It’s definitely nice to have options, at least! My local whole foods doesn’t even do pizza, as far as I know…
Looks awesome.
We finally got a WF near us (Well, an hour’s drive away…in Santa Barbara).
Unfortunately, the powers that be have decided that this area will not support Vegan dishes, and so there is VERY little from which to choose, and no Vegan pizza…
Was down in NYC and spotted vegan pizza at the counter. I had asked how much the entire thing would have cost, and the poor guy had to deftly maneuver it onto the scale. Needless to say the price was insane so I took half of it. It was all right, but my home made pizza’s better.
PS – I wish we had Whole Foods in Montreal.
