Cleo’s Peanut Butter Cups

October 27, 2011 By chow 10 Comments

Cleo's Peanut Butter Cups

After hearing about Cleo’s Peanut Butter Cups, I finally managed to track one down. They’re basically a vegan version of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, a favorite before becoming vegan.

Sliding a peanut butter cup out of the package, it looked a little melty and oily. I used a paper towel to blot off the excess and took a bite. I was surprised to find the taste to be sweeter than I expected. Maybe it’s because I don’t eat all that much candy.

On the plus side, the peanut butter isn’t the dry crumbly kind, it’s smooth and creamy. Just like you see in the picture.

Yup, another fine non-dairy, no hydrogenated oils or trans fat, vegan creation from the folks at Go Max Go. There’s also Snap!, a crispy rice milk chocolate bar that I haven’t been able to find locally yet. And I’m still hoping for a vegan version of Twix someday.

I think these are absolutely delicious.. I can’t believe they’ve got them to taste so good with such, well, natural ingredients! And I think these and the Buccaneer bars are the best, but everyone seems to have a favourite bar :P.

I know a girl who’s invented a vegan recipe for Twix. I’ve not tried it yet myself. http://realsustenance.com/twix-bars-2-ways-grain-free-paleo-or-gluten-free-grain-based-both-recipes-dairysoycorneggrefined-sugar-free/

These folks are on a roll reinventing the old favorites. I love their Almond Joy creation. If I see these, I’ll have to try them.

These things are amazing! Very sweet, yes, but just like Reese’s cups (or so I remember them). Mine were flawless, not melty or oily, so yours might have just been handled poorly or melted in transit.

The peanut butter looks almost caramel-y in the photo. I never was a peanut butter fan back in the days when I would have eaten a Reese’s, though I like it now. If I ate candy at all, it had to be caramel! I’m glad that candy lovers can finally get better quality vegan candy, even if I don’t get all excited about it.

The peanut butter cups look delicious. I too, missed Reese’s peanut butter cups when becoming vegan. Just like one of the previous comments, I like the look of teh creamy peanut butter. I like Justin’s peanut butter cups, but the peanut butter is not creamy like Cleo’s.

These are a really nice treat! And I am wishing for a vegan (and gluten free) version of a Twix bar too!

I haven’t been very impressed with any of their candy bars, they’re too sweet. Justin’s makes a vegan peanut butter cup, but it’s not very good. I guess I’ll have to make my own.
