Oatmeal Raisin Cookie From Vegan Cookies Invade Your Cookie Jar

Oatmeal Raisin Cookie From Vegan Cookies Invade Your Cookie Jar

I can’t bake. I know it. You know it. Even the oven knows it. But after I received a review copy of Vegan Cookies Invade Your Cookie Jar by Isa Chandra Moskowitz and Terry Hope Romero, I just had to give my favorite cookie, oatmeal raisin, a try.

It didn’t start off well. I bought the wrong kind of quick-cooking oats, somehow I missed the smaller “steel cut” type on the package. Of course, I didn’t notice until I had already mixed up all of the wet ingredients and just poured in the oats and started mixing.

After recovering from flashbacks of other ill-fated attempts at baking. I dumped everything into the garbage and headed back to the store.

Oatmeal Raisin Cookie From Vegan Cookies Invade Your Cookie Jar

I got the correct ingredients this time, after double-checking the labels on everything. Mixed up a batch and started plopping them on the baking sheet. Shoved the whole thing in the oven and prayed the entire 10 minutes that they were in there, that all would be well when they came back out.

Lo and behold, I actually made a cookie! Thank goodness for small miracles. It’s been ages since I enjoyed a freshly baked cookie hot out of the oven. It’s so good!

To celebrate, I’m giving away a copy of Vegan Cookies Invade Your Cookie Jar so you too may enjoy freshly baked goodies, with or without noobie drama.

The cookbook includes 100 recipes organized by type – from drop, wholesome, bar, fancy to sliced and rolled cookies. There’s also a very handy section in the beginning covering ingredients, tools, substitutions and troubleshooting.

To enter, complete the following:

1. Subscribe to chowvegan.com via RSS reader or email.

2. Leave a comment in this post that you’ve done so and tell me what is your favorite cookie. Comment must be made by midnight PST on Saturday, December 12th; one entry per person. Giveaway is open to US mailing addresses only.

One winner will be randomly selected from the comments received and announced on Monday, December 14th. Good luck!

Those cookies look delicious! I would love to try a cookie recipe with steel-cut oats. I really enjoy reading your blog and have been subscribed for a while. Thanks for offering the chance to be entered in a giveaway.

If I had to pick a favorite cookie, I think it would be the “power cookies” a close family friend used to make for me when I was younger. They were a delicious oatmeal-chocolate chip-cinnamon chip combo. If I could find vegan cinnamon chips, I would totally try to veganize the recipe.

For what it’s worth, I think that any type of oats would have worked for the oatmeal raisin cookies. You needn’t have thrown away the dough–it could have made good oatmeal for breakfast. ;) My favorite cookie is peanut butter chocolate chip. Thanks for the chance to win the vegan cookie cookbook. P.S. I am a current a Chow Vegan subscriber

    Hi:)

Thank you for the review on this cookbook. It sounds just like a cookbook I need to add to my collection. I am always looking for baking ideas without eggs, especially around the holidays. I traditionally always back a lot of cookies and rum cake this time of year, but it would be awesome to give my family and friends a healthier vegan version and turn them on to vegan food can be delicious!

My favorite cookie is a vegan chocolate chip recipe that I found on the internet about 5 years ago. I will try to find it if anybody would like :)

    Thanks again!

I wonder if the cookies would have turned out anyway–maybe the extra nutty chew of the steel cut oats would have been good. hmm. Anyways, I’d love a copy of the book since I can’t go out right now and buy it any time soon and, if it’s anything like VCTOTW, it’s got to be fabulous!

we don’t bake much either because i’m not exactly the best at it. there’s always something i leave out or add too much of – you should have seen the gluten-free double chocolate chip cookies i made yesterday – they ended up spreading like crazy and i had 2 baking sheets full of one giant cookie! ah ha ha! i crumbled them up and might use them later for something else. **sigh**

i’m glad you made the cookies again with the non-steel cut oats. your oatmeal cookies are picture perfect!

i’d love to win a copy of vegan cookies invade your cookie jar & i already subscribe to your site. yay! i’d have to say that my favorite cookies are these date filled sugar cookies that my grandmother used to make. i’ve veganized her recipe and now i need to de-glutenize it so i can enjoy them again soon. they’re my absolute favorite! mmmmmmmm!

My son and I love the oatmeal cookies! But I have to say biscotti is my favorite. You know like other comments I think the steel cut oats may have worked. I have a package of Coachs Oats from Costco, it’s a kind of cross between steel cut and regular and there is a recipe on the back for cookies.

I can actually bake some cookies and take them to work and prove to everyone that vegan can be tasty….they think my food is bland…..

As luck would have it, I stumbled across this blog after searching high and low for the banana oatmeal breakfast cookies recipe from this book! My daughter has all of their books, literally, all of them. Unfortunately, she recently moved away leaving both me and the cookie sheets a bit lonely. She’ll be coming home for the holidays, maybe I could surprise her and bake the cowboy cookies from this book? I know that’s one of her favorites, although my favorite would have to be good old fashioned oatmeal raisin cookies.
