sam - Yes, I'm located in the SF bay area. I'm drooling just at the thought of eating at Millennium. Their food is absolutely delicious, the tasting menu is a great way to try a little bit of everything.

Of all the places to be a vegan, the bay area is one of the best - between all the different restaurants, farmers markets and Asian grocery stores - it makes it fairly easy or easier than other places.

I have a big soft spot for vegan food, despite being a meat eater so I am happy to discover your blog which Barbara says is out of SF - is that right? A friend is taking me to 'covert a carnivore' night at Millenium tomorrow. I am not sure it will work, since I tried veganism before and didn't ultimately last, but I love their appetizers anyway.

I don't chop the kale leaves for my smoothies.
I remove the hard vein and blend it raw.
